The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) reconvened its successful Islamic Culture in Tourism Workshop on December 12, emphasizing the ongoing professional development of tourism employees. This initiative aims to enhance the hospitality skills of industry workers, thus elevating the overall quality of tourism services and contributing to the city’s brand as it seeks to attract a broader range of international visitors.
Renewed Interest Spurs Additional Workshop
After the initial workshop in March 2023 garnered significant interest, MGTO hosted a subsequent session to accommodate the growing demand. The increased capacity allowed more professionals from the tourism sector, including hotel and restaurant employees, travel agents, tour guides, retail staff, and chefs, to participate. The workshop featured Ding Shao Jie, the Imam of the Islamic Association of Macau, as the keynote speaker, with MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes also in attendance.
Workshop Focuses on Practical Insights into Islamic Culture
The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of Islamic beliefs, rituals, festivals, customs, and cultural aspects. It aimed to educate industry participants on the nuances of catering to Islamic visitors, including specific travel itinerary considerations. The session offered practical knowledge about Islamic culture, equipping tourism workers to better serve Islamic visitors.
Ongoing Industry Training for Enhanced Tourism Services
Committed to continuously upgrading the tourism sector’s service quality, MGTO collaborates with industry stakeholders to offer various training programs. Following the initial Islamic Culture in Tourism Workshop and other cultural competency courses, the Office has been proactive in broadening the scope of hospitality education. These programs are designed to equip tourism professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary to cater to a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and international markets.
