A train accident occurred in Moorpark, Southern California, when an Amtrak train carrying nearly 200 passengers collided with a county water truck.
The collision caused three out of the seven train cars to derail, but they remained upright on adjacent tracks. The truck driver, critically injured in the crash, was transported to a trauma center with a head injury.
Fourteen train passengers suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals for treatment. The Ventura County Fire Department reported that the demolished water truck’s parts were scattered around the derailed train cars.
Initially, it was believed that the truck driver had exited the vehicle before the collision, but further investigation was required to determine the circumstances leading up to the accident. Passengers described feeling a sudden impact and witnessing the water truck’s tank tumbling past their windows. Fortunately, most passengers were able to evacuate with minimal assistance.
Amtrak confirmed that there were no reports of serious injuries among the passengers and crew. The train was en route from Seattle to Los Angeles when it struck the obstructing water truck on the tracks. Local authorities and Amtrak are conducting a full investigation into the incident.
