Now, the light art exhibition Manar Abu Dhabi is open for public, displaying captivating light artworks connected all over different mangroves, islands, and natural vistas in the capital.

The main pillar of the Department of Tourism, Abu Dhabi’s Public Art Abu Dhabi effort, the inaugural edition of Manar is hosted under the theme Grounding Light, entrenched in the idea of discovering and self-enlightening and the concept that light is a replication of their inner selves, mind, body, nature and spirit. Curated by Alia Zaal Lootah and Reem Fadda, the citywide exhibition shows wide choices of artworks by more than 20 regional, local and international artists from China, Argentina, Germany, India, Japan, France, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States.

Jim Denevan has shaped Self Similar on Fahid Island, a monumental land art installation well-lit by 448 solar lanterns. There are soaring clouds and tiny grains of sand coalesce into a symphony of interconnectedness.

In the meantime, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer takes over Lulu Island with Translation Island, a cooperative expedition through 10 large-scale audiovisual multimedia artworks. An ambitious technological tour de force, the works hires ultrasonic atomizers, Geiger counters and thermal cameras.
