Abu Dhabi Airports, the entity overseeing five commercial airports in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, announced today the initiation of an exchange program in collaboration with the Shanghai Airport Authority. The program, established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Abu Dhabi Airports and the Shanghai Airport Authority (AVINEX), acknowledges shared interests and aims to capitalize on collaboration opportunities within the aviation sector.
Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and Interim CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed satisfaction with the agreement, stating, “We are pleased to formalize this partnership with AVINEX of Shanghai shortly after the inauguration of the new Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Recognizing the mutual benefits of exchanging knowledge and experience in the efficient, sustainable, and economic development of our respective airports, we find significance in our shared growth in demand and management of high-quality airports in our regions.”
The primary objective of the MOU is to leverage the comprehensive expertise of both airports in areas such as operations, marketing, and overall airport management. The collaboration aims to undertake initiatives promoting the development of passenger and freight business, facilitating effective transfer products and services, and executing joint marketing campaigns focused on boosting tourism between the two landmark destinations.
Feng Xin, CEO of Shanghai Airport Authority (AVINEX), expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to work together to integrate our airports’ route networks, improve accessibility, enhance hub operation quality, and stimulate growth in passenger and freight markets. With Shanghai Airports swiftly resuming international flights, we are pleased to note the operational commencement of Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new Terminal A, marking a solid foundation for our cooperation. We hope for increased collaboration between Chinese airlines and Etihad Airways at this new terminal, as we jointly strive to achieve our shared goals and build a thriving ecosystem of hub operation, contributing to the prosperity of our aviation markets.”
The agreement underscores the commitment to ongoing cooperation and collaboration between the two parties, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining and developing a compatible and efficient air transport system through the exchange and adoption of best practices.
