Driven by a dedication to positively impact Cambodia, Rosewood Phnom Penh leads Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, rooted in circular hospitality practices. Teaming up with Vattanac Properties, the hotel introduces an innovative hydroponic garden—the first of its kind in a Cambodian office tower.

Atop the iconic Vattanac Capital Tower’s 9th floor, this 50-square-meter indoor garden employs hydroponic techniques, cultivating herbs and leafy vegetables. These fresh ingredients star in the hotel’s acclaimed restaurants, including Cuts, Brasserie Louis, Zhan Liang, Iza, and Sora, renowned for their diverse culinary offerings.

Unlike traditional gardens, this hydroponic setup uses nutrient-rich water solutions, providing fresh, pesticide-free produce while controlling the growing process and mitigating risks of pests or contamination.

This innovation ensures a year-round supply of natural, farm-to-table ingredients, reducing the property’s carbon footprint by shortening the supply chain. Approximately 30% of vegetables typically go to waste within traditional supply chains, a concern addressed by Rosewood Phnom Penh’s initiative.

The hydroponic garden significantly reduces transportation and storage needs, being just floors away from the kitchen, rather than hours or days distant.

In Seyha, Assistant Manager of Hygiene and Sustainability, notes, “Our hydroponic garden ensures a consistent supply of top-quality, pesticide-free produce throughout the year, enhancing our guests’ dining experiences.”

Currently, the garden supplies 70% of the hotel’s leafy vegetables and herbs, with plans to expand and collaborate with local farmers for additional sustainable sourcing.

These efforts align with Rosewood Impacts, fostering self-sufficiency, minimizing environmental impact, supporting local farmers, and promoting a robust agricultural sector.

Amid its impactful initiatives, the hotel composts food waste, eliminated plastic amenities, and contributed to community endeavors like building schools with recycled glass bottles and engaging in conservation efforts.

Daniel Simon, Managing Director of Rosewood Phnom Penh, emphasizes their commitment to sustainable strategies and circular hospitality practices, aiming to inspire positive change in Cambodia and beyond.

Experience the freshness of Rosewood Phnom Penh’s hydroponic produce during your visit, and discover more about their commitment to people and the planet.
