With YBhg. Datuk (Dr.) Yasmin Mahmood appointed as Chairman and a vibrant Board of Directors, Tourism Malaysia ushers in a new era. With eight other members, Datuk (Dr.) Yasmin, who has extensive experience in the technology sector, hopes to encourage innovation and improve Malaysia’s travel and tourism sector.
In effect since September 8, 2023, Datuk (Dr.) Yasmin brings with her almost 30 years of experience in key positions she had at YTL Communications Pte Ltd, Microsoft Malaysia, and MDEC. Commencing on October 9, 2023, Penang State Tourism’s former chairman, YBhg. Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, will take on the position of deputy chairman.
A wide range of industries important to tourism were represented on the board by the appointments made by YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture. Members of the Malaysian Immigration Department, the Ministry of Finance, and MOTAC are in the lineup.
YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing expressed optimism that the new Board would strategically steer Malaysia’s tourism and implement reforms. Among their mandates include promoting tourism that is Muslim-friendly, anticipating Visit Malaysia Year 2026, and elevating the standard of the sector.
YB Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, while expressing confidence said, “The diverse backgrounds of the group will have a positive impact on MOTAC and Tourism Malaysia.” The goal of the new leadership is to improve Malaysia’s international attractiveness and define the industry’s future while coordinating with a successful strategic plan for a rise in foreign visitor arrivals.
