Join the vibrant Beypore International Water Festival, Dec 26, for aquatic sports, cultural events, and festive entertainment in Beypore.
The upcoming Beypore International Water Festival (BIWF), set to commence on December 26, is poised to be a grand affair with a fusion of aquatic sports and festive entertainment. This four-day extravaganza, which is entering its third year, will kick off in Beypore, with the opening ceremony graced by the region’s Tourism Minister, Mr. PA Mohamed Riyas. The event will be further dignified by the presence of the Ports Minister, Mr. Ahamed Devarkovil, who will chair the event, along with the city’s Mayor, Ms. Beena Philip, serving as the honored guest. Other notable attendees include the Director of Kerala Tourism, Mr. P B Nooh, the District Collector Mr. Snehil Kumar Singh, and the KTIL Chairman, Mr. S K Sajeesh.
The festival will primarily be centered around Beypore Marina Beach and Chaliyam Beach, located along the Chaliyar River, extending to Nallur and the Beypore Port. To broaden its appeal, various events are also scheduled at notable locations across the city, like Kozhikode Beach, aiming to draw both international and local tourists.
The inaugural evening, beginning at 6:30 pm, promises an exciting musical performance by the Haricharan Band. Additionally, the Tourism Minister will inaugurate the Beypore International Responsible Tourism Fair and the Textile Art Fest at the E K Nayanar Mini Stadium in Nallur, Feroke, on December 27 at 4:30 pm.
Organized by the Tourism Department in partnership with the District Administration and District Tourism Promotion Council, BIWF offers a wide range of activities. These include cultural shows, a grand food festival, and adventure sports. Visitors can also experience naval and coast guard ship tours, an international kite festival featuring participants from five nations, boat races, and demonstrations of various water sports. The festival also hosts a flea market, paramotoring, and sailing regatta, among other attractions.
A highlight of the festival is a bicycle rally from Kozhikode Beach to Beypore Beach at 7 am on December 26, marking the start of the festivities. The program lineup is diverse, featuring cycling events, paddle races, treasure hunts, military shows, and concerts. Notable performances include ‘AR Rahman Night’ by Anwar Sadath and team, music programs by Siddharth Menon, Nitya Maman, Nishad, Mridula Warrier, Unnimenon, Sachin Warrier, Arya Dayal Band, and ‘Afsal Night’.
Beypore, a coastal area six kilometers south of Kozhikode, has a rich history as a port linking maritime trade with West Asia, predating Western colonial influence.
