The IFEMA MADRID-organized International Tourism Trade Fair, scheduled for January 24-28, 2024, stands out as a global benchmark for advocating environmental, social, and corporate governance responsibility in the tourism sector.
A notable addition to this edition is the introduction of the FITUR 4all section, focusing on accessible tourism. The fair will also acknowledge the most sustainable stand by evaluating its carbon footprint, and the FiturNext Observatory will reward tourism initiatives contributing to the revitalization of territories.
FITUR 2024, orchestrated by IFEMA MADRID at the Trade Fair Centre during January 24-28, not only claims its place as the foremost trade fair in tourism but also emphasizes its commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and corporate governance. The 44th edition aims to be a voice for best practices, promoting strategies that foster responsible tourism and contribute to the development of a more sustainable economy.
To achieve these goals, the International Tourism Trade Fair plans to host various activities, workshops, and conferences, emphasizing the importance of sustainable tourism that minimizes environmental impact, positively affects culture and local communities, promotes corporate governance, and advocates for equality and inclusion.
Each section of FITUR aligns with the theme of sustainability, with FITUR 4all leading the way in promoting accessible and inclusive tourism. FITUR Woman showcases female talent, while FITUR LGBT+ supports equality. Other sections like FITUR Screen, FITUR Sports, and FITUR Lingua aim to distribute tourism activity throughout territories, crucial for community development and progress toward sustainable models. FITUR Cruises focuses on responsible blue tourism, and FITUR Talent addresses social and economic aspects of talent in tourism.
FITUR encourages exhibitors, professionals, and visitors to participate sustainably by providing action guides and recommendations to minimize the environmental impact. For the second consecutive year, IFEMA MADRID will measure FITUR’s carbon footprint, reflecting a steadfast commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness.
Sustainable participation is further emphasized through the Sustainable Stand Awards, in collaboration with the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR), recognizing exhibitors aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The 5th edition of the Fitur Next Observatory rewards tourism initiatives contributing to the revitalization of territories, aiming to address depopulation, promote employment, local consumption, rural-urban balance, and sustainability.
FITUR 2024 underscores the necessity of sustainable tourism for an equitable future, reflecting an industry with a responsible orientation. The fair commits to long-term improvement and collaboration within the global tourism industry, emphasizing efforts, commitments, and advances in sustainability by destinations and companies.
