Ecuador is poised to shine as the Partner Country at FITUR 2024, the International Tourism Trade Fair scheduled for January 24 to 28 in Madrid. Minister of Tourism Niels Olsen underscores the pivotal role of tourism in Ecuador’s economy, ranking as the third most significant non-oil industry in revenue generation. A surge in tourism, marked by a 25.7% growth in foreign exchange earnings to nearly USD 1 billion in the first half of 2023, underscores the sector’s resilience and competitiveness.
Hosting FITUR 2024 is a strategic move for Ecuador, aiming not only to attract two million international tourists by 2025 but also to generate employment opportunities for 700,000 people. The Ecuadorian stand promises to be historic, featuring 48 private companies showcasing the country’s dynamic tourism offerings. Minister Olsen invites visitors to explore the stand in Hall 3, where food demos and tasting events will tantalize taste buds, offering a glimpse into Ecuador’s rich gastronomy.
Diversification takes center stage as Ecuador pioneers Sustainable and Violet Tourism. Minister Olsen emphasizes the positive impact on local communities, the preservation of natural and cultural heritage, and the creation of unforgettable experiences. Violet Tourism, catering to women, seeks to empower them in various roles within the tourism sector. Programs like Pueblos y Rincones Mágicos and Best Tourism Villages aim to revalue authenticity, attracting both national and international tourists.
Ecuador’s commitment to growth includes measures such as tax reductions and Open Skies agreements, resulting in improved air connectivity. The USA leads as the main source market, followed by Colombia, Peru, and Spain. The latter has witnessed a remarkable evolution in tourism flow, with a 95% recovery from pre-pandemic figures. Minister Olsen highlights tourism’s crucial role in the national economy, supporting over half a million families and fostering a multiplier effect across various sectors.
FITUR 2024 sets the stage for Ecuador’s ambitious tourism objectives, highlighting its diverse offerings, commitment to sustainability, and economic impact. As the countdown to the event begins, Ecuador beckons travelers to discover the magic of its landscapes, culture, and cuisine.
