Coming as a shot in the arm for the tourism sector, the Assam State Cabinet led by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma approved the proposal to grant Industrial status to the tourism sector in the state. This move of the state government is bound to accelerate socio-economic development in Assam by providing more job and investment opportunities to the local people.
“With the grant of industry status to the tourism sector, now, restaurants, cafeterias, health clubs, spas and wellness centres among others are eligible for incentives under industrial policy. This move will further encourage and boost private investment in the above areas of the tourism sector,” Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah was quoted by a news agency as saying. Earlier, tourism sector was not under State Industrial Policy.
Heralding a new era in the field of tourism, this decision by the state government will witness infrastructure development through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, which will contribute to the region’s overall development.
The new policy has been formulated with an eye to create gainful employment, sustainable investment and capital formation.
