Poovar in Thiruvananthapuram is well-known for its picturesque backwaters and tranquil beaches. A voyage in boat through the striking mangroves that are home to several uncommon kinds of birds is truly
entertaining and is something that needs to feature in the schedule of tourists.
Nevertheless, with the increase in tourists this summer, there are grievances regarding private
operators swindling the tourists, frequently charging much more than the actual ticket prices. Many clubs
are charging around Rs. 9500 for eight people going for one-and-a-half hours boat trips. The let-down by the experts to control and normalize the ticket charges are giving rise to robbery.
The boat vendors stated that they have to dispense up to 60 percent charge to representatives and drivers of tourist buses, and that is the reason why they are charging more.
Nonetheless, people coming with families also have to pay the same charges. After extensive criticisms, the police have created notices that show that the usual proportion of Rs. 2500 for two people for a one-and-a- half-hour trip, in specific parts of the tourist site.
Yet, bulks of boat owners are not eager to reduce the excessive charges. There are also protests that they avoid those places where police have erected such sign boards.
