The capital city of West Bengal is Kolkata. Known as the ‘City of Joy’, it is noted as one of the places to visit before you die. The second largest city of West Bengal is Darjeeling. Located in the picturesque foothills of the Himalayas, it features tea plantations, monasteries, and majestic views of the mountains. A UNESCO world heritage site, it comprises of various kinds of wildlife and zigzag river flows that offer a beautiful boat ride.

West Bengal Tourism is taking part in the upcoming international travel trade fair. During the trade fair, West Bengal Tourism aims to highlight the wonderful range of destinations and activities in the state for global tourists. On display will be photographs and videos of the main attractions, along with brochures and literature to help guide tourists. Tour operators from the state will be present at various booths to answer questions and provide advice.

West Bengal is rich in culture, known for its local festivals and handicrafts. Some of the cultural locations you must visit are the iconic Sunderbans, the largest delta in the world, and the Darjeeling Hill Station. Not to be missed when in West Bengal are two of the eight World UNESCO Heritage Sites, the Buddhist Monuments and Kolkata’s own oasis Rajbari, formerly known as Victoria Memorial.

Modern attractions like malls, restaurants and resorts are abundant here. Visitors can visit book fairs and meet some of the country’s great authors at the International Kolkata Book Fair or take part in traditional ceremonies at the Rash Mela. Hang out with the locals at Sunday Markets or take a ride through the Tea Gardens of Darjeeling and Dooars.

West Bengal has plenty to offer for thrill-seekers and nature-lovers. Cycling is a popular sport here, and cycling competitions are held in Kolkata and Siliguri every year. For an exciting experience, you can try river rafting in the Teesta and Murti rivers, and rock climbing in the Himalayas. Adventure and amusement parks are also available in Kolkata.

The traditional Bengali cuisine is the number 1 attraction when it comes to West Bengal. From street foods like jhalmuri, fuchka and puchka, to the acclaimed sweets like rosogolla, kheer and bati, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your taste buds. Chai-drinkers can try the famous bharer cha and hindo-drinkers can enjoy the thandiya and meetha chai!
