Air Canada unveiled its plans to enhance its North American network capacity for the summer of 2024, introducing fresh additions that promise to meet projected demand. The airline is set to become the first Canadian carrier to connect travelers to Tulum*, Mexico, through new routes originating from Toronto and Montreal, catering to the Yucatan peninsula’s latest airport. Additionally, Air Canada will offer service to Charleston, South Carolina from Toronto. Seats are currently available for booking through a variety of channels, including aircanada.com, the Air Canada app, Air Canada’s contact centers, and travel agents. The sale of tickets for Tulum flights will commence on December 15.
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President of Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada, expressed excitement about these additions, highlighting the company’s strategy of expanding capacity in both sought-after leisure destinations like Tulum and rapidly growing metropolitan areas in the United States, such as Charleston, South Carolina. Galardo also shared the airline’s commitment to strengthening its North American network, increasing flight frequencies in key markets like Ottawa, Calgary, Saskatoon, and Regina, as well as resuming seasonal routes ahead of schedule, thus offering more travel options and improved access to its global network.
For the summer of 2024, Air Canada aims to serve a total of 120 destinations across Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean, with up to 520 daily flights, equating to around 66,000 available seats. This represents a 5% increase in North American and Caribbean seat capacity compared to 2023.
Air Canada’s new Tulum route was especially lauded by Lic. Miguel Torruco Marqués, Secretary of Tourism in Mexico, who emphasized the importance of connectivity in driving tourism. The two new routes to Tulum International Airport are poised to boost tourism from Canada, a significant source market for international visitors to Mexico.
Charleston International Airport also welcomed the introduction of Air Canada’s daily flights connecting Toronto and Charleston, citing the convenience and travel options this route brings to leisure, family, and business travelers. The partnership is viewed as a significant development in bolstering international visitation, stimulating tourism in the Charleston region, and improving connectivity for local residents traveling to Canada and other international destinations served via Air Canada’s Toronto hub.
Furthermore, Air Canada is expanding its services by introducing additional flights from its Montreal hub to Austin and St. Louis. These new routes complement existing flights from Toronto and Vancouver to Austin, as well as Toronto to St. Louis.
In summary, Air Canada’s summer 2024 plans involve significant network expansions, offering travelers more choices, improved access, and enhanced connectivity to a wide range of destinations across North America and the Caribbean, all in response to projected demand.
