The Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel, managed by Accor, is taking significant strides towards environmental sustainability by implementing measures to achieve carbon neutrality and reduce waste.

As part of Accor’s global commitment to environmental responsibility and combating plastic pollution, the hotel has eliminated or replaced all single-use plastics in its guest rooms.

Ferghal Purcell, General Manager for Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel, highlighted the hotel’s alignment with Accor’s ‘Our Planet, Our Commitment’ initiative, a collective effort to lead industry best practices. The hotel’s sustainability initiatives extend beyond rhetoric, with a focus on making a decisive contribution to global conservation measures. Purcell emphasized that each step taken by the hotel, though seemingly small, aligns with its core values and contributes to broader objectives.

To address the issue of single-use plastics, the hotel is leveraging Nanoceram purification technology, derived from NASA, which produces zero water waste during filtration. This technology allows the hotel to provide its own drinking water in reusable glass bottles, minimizing the reliance on disposable plastic items.

Energy conservation is central to the hotel’s future plans, with a focus on increasing efficiency through the use of energy-efficient appliances, light bulbs, and improved insulation. These steps underscore the hotel’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices.

In the realm of food wastage reduction, the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel is implementing strategies such as smart weighing and re-envisioning buffets and recipes. These initiatives not only contribute to reducing environmental impact but also encourage eco-friendly dining habits, providing guests with authentic and healthy gastronomic experiences.

Situated in Port Rashid, the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel is a historic floating hotel, offering 447 renovated rooms and suites. The hotel’s commitment to sustainability extends to its dining outlets, where guests can enjoy innovative menus in eco-conscious settings, including Lido, The Golden Lion, The Pavilion, and the Queens Grill.

As the hotel takes these bold steps towards sustainability, it invites guests and partners to join in the journey towards a more ecologically responsible approach. By incorporating innovative technologies, energy-efficient practices, and waste reduction strategies, the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel is making a tangible impact on global conservation efforts while providing guests with a memorable and environmentally conscious experience.
