Kate Holsgrove, Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer of Perth Airport, highlighted the significance of the new aviation service as a key milestone in Western Australia’s aviation strategy. She emphasized the collaborative efforts with the State Government to target international aviation markets, aiming to benefit the local tourism industry and the broader economy.
Holsgrove pointed out the importance of Vietnam as Western Australia’s 14th largest trading partner, with a substantial total trade of $2.4 billion in 2022-23. The establishment of a direct air link with Vietnam through the partnership with Vietnam Airlines is expected to foster stronger business ties.
Expressing optimism about the new non-stop service, Holsgrove stated that it would create over 85,000 seats and nearly 6,000 tons of cargo capacity annually. This collaboration with Vietnam Airlines is viewed as an opportunity to unlock additional prospects for economic growth.
Nguyen Huu Tung, the General Manager of Vietnam Airlines Australia, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the alignment of the new service with Vietnam Airlines’ strategy to expand its network in Australia. He highlighted the convenience offered by the non-stop service, making travel between Ho Chi Minh City and Perth more accessible for Western Australians. Moreover, he emphasized the ease of connecting from Ho Chi Minh City to Europe and North-East Asia through Vietnam Airlines’ extensive flight network.
The airline’s choice of aircraft for this route is the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, featuring a total of 274 seats, including 28 Business Class, 35 Premium Economy Class, and 211 Economy Class seats. This provides passengers with a range of options for their travel experience between the two destinations.
The inaugural service from Ho Chi Minh City to Perth is scheduled to arrive at 23:05, with the return flight departing on December 8 at 00:50, marking the commencement of this new and promising air route between the two regions.
