The place of Matildas (the women’s football team in Australia), waltzing Barbies, and dangling tunes of Taylor Swift Melbourne is a beautiful place to spend the New Year.
The New Year of 2023 is set to thrill people with a plethora of beautiful things to do.
However, things remain mostly unchanged despite constant change. As Victoria welcomes in the New Year, thousands of Melburnians will once more swarm to the CBD for a spectacular fireworks display that will excite those anticipating 2024 and serve as a welcome farewell for those relieved to see 2023 come to a close.
Treasury Gardens, Flagstaff Gardens, Docklands, and Kings Domain are the four designated celebration zones within the City of Melbourne. They all include free musical performances by DJs and other artists from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Catering is also available from food trucks; alcohol is not permitted in any area.
It is ideal to see the fireworks from a location where one can see the whole city skyline because they are fired from Melbourne’s towers and other famous sites. One must keep 120 metres away from the fireworks barge in Victoria Harbour if one is lucky enough to be watching from a boat. For those who want to watch from home, Channel Nine is the authorised broadcaster.
The New Year’s Eve (& The Night Before) Gala Concert, with special guests Marina Prior and Michael Cormick, will once again take the Hamer Hall stage as John Foreman’s 60-piece Australian Pops Orchestra performs. Additionally, at 10.30 p.m., immediately following the performance, the Arts Centre will hold a balcony fireworks party.
A Tulum Jungle Party at Arbory Afloat, canapes and cocktails at Transit Rooftop Bar and a two-level party package at The Emerald Peacock on Lonsdale Street are just a few of Melbourne’s premier pubs and restaurants that are throwing parties as well.
Restaurants such as Mister Bianco serve food. This beloved Kew restaurant, which reopened recently, is serving a four-course Italian feast to celebrate the new year. Cavatelli with charred corn, peppers and goat’s curd will be the pasta dish that follows shared appetisers such as oysters, focaccia, stracciatella, antipasto and more. Angus eye fillet, market fish, roasted porchetta and eggplant cotoletta are possible main course options. Ice cream cannoli and other table desserts will round up the dinner and the year.
