Hilton 7th year on DJSI: Strong environmental & social impact

Hilton has proudly announced its seventh consecutive recognition on both the World and North America Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). As the sole representative from the hospitality sector on these prestigious rankings for corporate sustainability performance, Hilton reaffirms its unwavering dedication to its “Travel with Purpose” initiative. This initiative is renowned for its commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies and marks a pivotal year for Hilton as it continues to lead the way in responsible travel and tourism throughout the industry.

Katherine Lugar, Hilton’s Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs, emphasized the enduring vision upon which Hilton was founded: harnessing hospitality as a force for positive change. She remarked, “Our commitment to care for our communities, promote opportunity, and safeguard the environment remains unwavering.”

This recognition underscores Hilton’s industry-leading approach to quantifying and mitigating its environmental impact, a groundbreaking journey initiated with Hilton becoming the first major hotel company to establish science-based carbon reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Hilton employs its award-winning ESG management system, LightStay, to gauge performance and monitor progress toward its Travel with Purpose 2030 Goals, encompassing nearly 7,400 hotels globally. Since its inception in 2009, LightStay data indicates a remarkable 44% reduction in carbon emissions intensity across Hilton’s worldwide hotel portfolio, resulting in over $1 billion in utility cost savings. Hilton’s leadership in this area was further demonstrated at the United Nations COP28 Climate Conference in Dubai, where the company reaffirmed its dedication to reducing food waste and employing data-driven approaches to enact meaningful change within hotels and the broader industry.
