Thai Airways partners with OR to operate SAF flight

In a groundbreaking initiative towards environmental sustainability, Mr. Chai Eamsiri, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), and Mr. Disathat Panyarachun, Chief Executive Officer of PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited (OR), jointly presided over the operation of a flight utilizing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on the Phuket-Bangkok route. The event, witnessed by senior executives from THAI and OR, marked a significant milestone in their commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly aviation practices.

THAI and OR collaborated to implement SAF on the Phuket-Bangkok flight, a fuel alternative that releases 80 percent less carbon dioxide than regular aviation fuel throughout its life cycle. Importantly, SAF can be seamlessly mixed with Jet A1 regular aviation fuel without requiring any engine conversion. This groundbreaking flight underscores a promising starting point for maintaining environmental sustainability in the aviation sector.

The collaboration aligns with THAI’s commitment to achieving its 2050 net-zero emission goal both domestically and internationally, in adherence to regulations set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), and the European Union.
