For the Myrtle Beach Invitational, Sunday was the final day as teams were keen on completing the tournament; leaders with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce explained that this weekend, the sports tourism sector is the real winner.
With sports tourism back in the Grand Strand and with the continued growth of the Myrtle Beach Invitational, the area is all set to turn into a sports destination in the coming days.
“I’m here all the time especially because of the weather and the features that they have here at myrtle beach to enjoy,” said Wayne Trice.
Wayne Trice explained that he loves to explore Myrtle Beach and is coming here for the last 40 years.
It’s even this time as Trice watched his son competing in the 3rd annual Myrtle Beach Invitational.
Jonathan Paris with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce said the tournament has become quite popular in all these years. He stated that this has helped spread the word.
“In addition to driving tourism with folks coming in from out of town it also drives a significant amount of marketing exposure for the destination,” said Paris.
He also mentioned that over the course of the weekend, a minimum of 1,100 room nights have been filled, not including visiting families and other spectators.
However, Paris said they believe events like this weekend will create future trips to the Grand Strand.
“We really see it as a way, whether it’s our youth amateur events, whether you’re a fan coming to the Myrtle Beach Bowl or Myrtle Beach Invitational, we hope we turn you into a future vacation down the road with your family,” said Paris.
