The victor of the most exquisitely adorned Christmas bus in Sydney was determined by Santa’s pint-sized assistant—an fortunate 8-year-old lad—at the annual Christmas bus decoration competition hosted by Transport for NSW today.

In collaboration with the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Transport for NSW extended an invitation to all Greater Sydney bus operators to present a festively embellished bus at Brookvale depot for this morning’s competition.

John, the discerning 8-year-old chief adjudicator, alongside Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Marjorie O’Neill, singled out the bus from CDC Hills Bus as the triumphant entry in the 2023 contest.

The 8-year-old chief judge, John, expressed his sentiments: “I was genuinely impressed by the double-decker bus because I had never experienced one before. It was adorned with numerous embellishments such as tinsel and stickers.”

Choosing the victor was a delightful experience, and I wish that passengers derive the same joy akin to the festive spirit of Christmas when they step onto these buses. Heartfelt gratitude to all for ensuring their buses radiate a festive vibe, and I extend warm wishes of Merry Christmas to everyone.

Transport Parliamentary Secretary Marjorie O’Neill conveyed her appreciation: “We are well aware that the days leading up to Christmas can be exceptionally hectic, and we are grateful to each bus driver and depot team member for going the extra mile to bring smiles to every passenger’s face this season.”

“The creatively crafted decorations were of such a commendable standard that John had a challenging time settling on a winner. Ultimately, it was the lavishly adorned double-decker that captured John’s heart, so a big thank you to John.”

Member for Wakehurst Michael Regan MP added, “We are delighted to host the bus decoration judging here in Brookvale on the Northern Beaches. As commuters approach the final days before Christmas holidays, it’s wonderful to witness these bedecked buses spreading Christmas cheer throughout the network.”

“Congratulations to everyone involved in the decorating endeavor. You all are amazing.”

Acting Secretary Howard Collins reminded, “If you happen to be a bus passenger desiring a ride on a festively decorated bus, please consult your trip planner app—every holiday-themed bus can be distinguished by a special Christmas tree symbol featured on the timetable.

Bus passengers have until the New Year to experience a Christmas bus, as the decorations will be removed in January.
