From February 2 to 19, 2024, the enchanting Winterlude festival will once again grace Canada ‘s Capital Region, promising an unforgettable winter experience that will leave you with cherished memories.

In its 46th iteration, Winterlude continues to merge the wonders of winter with an array of cultural richness, artistic ingenuity, and a profound celebration of Canada’s diverse tapestry. Year after year, it magically transforms Canada’s Capital Region into a vibrant gathering spot, offering a smorgasbord of captivating and entertaining activities.

For those in search of indoor or outdoor adventures, Winterlude caters to all preferences and ages, be it families, individuals, couples, or friends. The festival boasts a wide spectrum of attractions, including mesmerizing performances, street artistry, captivating exhibits, and interactive, illuminated urban art installations.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find their hearts racing with excitement as they marvel at the majestic ice sculptures, glide along the iconic Rideau Canal Skateway, or take on the thrilling challenges of the Snowflake Kingdom, complete with the Tim Hortons Chinook Super Slide.

Families will revel in the wonders of Snowflake Kingdom, a collaborative effort with the Ville de Gatineau, where they can cheer on professional dancers in a breakdance battle (February 9 only), test their mettle in the Big Blizzard obstacle course designed for 8 to 16-year-olds, or partake in the Ice Dig treasure hunt.

For a cozy respite from the cold, Winterlude offers visits to participating museums like the Canadian Museum of History, where you can immerse yourself in an enriching Indigenous experience on February 4. Alternatively, you can head to the National Arts Centre and delve into the BIG BANG Festival, a two-day auditory adventure for the entire family.

A stroll along Sparks Street is a must, whether you’re captivated by the street performers at OLG Buskerfest – Winterlude Edition, a vibrant street art festival, or the breathtaking sculptures featured in Winterlude’s Ice-Carving Showcase, presented by Tim Hortons. Round off your adventure by attending one of the numerous family-friendly shows on offer.

If you’re venturing out on your own, as a couple, or with friends, make Sparks Street your first stop. Here, you can witness regional, national, and international ice sculptors at work while admiring an array of Canadian art installations.

But the excitement doesn’t end there. Beyond Sparks Street, Ottawa-Gatineau beckons with even more possibilities, including attending the Capital Pride Ice Parade, immersing yourself in a mini pow-wow at the Canadian Museum of History on February 4, witnessing the Montcalm bridge—also known as the Eiffel bridge—illuminate in tribute to Gustave Eiffel, skating and dancing to the beats of a DJ on the Rideau Canal Skateway, or enjoying various indoor and outdoor shows, including those at the National Arts Centre.

Winterlude also shines a spotlight on Indigenous culture, incorporating their practices, spiritual beliefs, history, and languages into the festival’s activities. The first weekend of Winterlude pays homage to these rich cultures, emphasizing the significance of Indigenous heritage and their vital role in Canada’s history.

During the second weekend, Winterlude invites everyone to celebrate Winter Pride, highlighting Canada’s cultural diversity and inclusive spirit. It’s an opportunity to recognize the exceptional contributions of the Black community in Canada and to immerse oneself in the vibrant cultures of Asia through Lunar New Year celebrations.

Join us from February 2 to 19, 2024, and immerse yourself in a celebration of Canadian culture, diversity, and the enchantment of winter during Winterlude 2024.
