SpiceJet flight SG 116 makes emergency landing in Varanasi after elderly passenger, Kalawati Devi, dies mid-air.
In a somber turn of events, a Darbhanga-Mumbai SpiceJet flight was forced to make an emergency landing at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. The unexpected diversion occurred after an elderly passenger, Kalawati Devi, aged 85, tragically passed away mid-air.
Kalawati Devi was traveling with her grandson on SpiceJet flight SG 116, which departed from Darbhanga airport at 5.40 p.m. on Monday. Sadly, shortly after takeoff, Devi’s health rapidly deteriorated. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the pilot swiftly contacted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Varanasi, requesting permission for an emergency landing.
The plane successfully landed in Varanasi at 6 p.m. Upon landing, medical personnel rushed Devi to a nearby hospital. However, despite their efforts, doctors declared her deceased upon arrival.
After addressing this unforeseen and unfortunate incident, the flight resumed its journey, departing for Mumbai at 7.30 p.m. on the same day. The incident has cast a somber tone over the flight, reminding passengers and crew alike of the unpredictability of life.
