A new virtual reality experience of the Marble Arch show cave is now available. At the Marble Arch Caves in County Fermanagh, a cutting-edge new virtual reality (VR) tour has made it possible for everyone to explore the stunning underground world of this UNESCO Global Geopark without actually going underground.
The Marble Arch Caves, a complex network of tunnels and chambers adorned with shimmering stalactites, stalagmites, and ancient rock formations dating back 340 million years, are acclaimed as one of Europe’s most exceptional show caves.
The typical guided tour, lasting approximately 75 minutes, includes an underground boat excursion followed by a walking tour encompassing stairs and a 1.5 km walk. These physical challenges render the experience inaccessible to certain individuals.
However, the caves can now be explored from the comfort of an above-ground VR room that has been specially designed by donning a VR headset. The immersive experience immerses the user in a real-world cave system, allowing them to explore its landscape, take in its serene ambience, and discover its beauty and fragility through a 360-degree panoramic view and surround sound.
The virtual reality journey starts at Gortmacconnell Rock’s viewpoint and then goes underground to explore the cave system. Key formations are highlighted and a brief history of the caves is provided by an experienced guide.
The show cave now has a brand-new dynamic lighting system installed throughout. The LED lighting is in line with the attraction’s sustainable management and conservation ethos and produces a very strong, cold light that highlights the beauty of this natural underground world.
The Marble Arch Caves are a part of the larger Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark, which encompasses a variety of environments including rolling drumlins, subterranean wonders, and lakes, forests, and rugged uplands.
The Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail, which passes through blanket bog and climbs to a viewing point with breathtaking views of the surrounding lowlands, is another must-see location within the geopark..
In addition to its geological marvels, the geopark boasts numerous archaeological and historical attractions, including castles, churches, and prehistoric tombs that can be explored along its extensive network of walking routes.
