The Shenzhen Airlines flight will be first link to connect UK with Shenzhen, the Silicon Valley of China. It will be flying three times a weak from London Heathrow and carry almost 100,000 passengers a year to China’s megacity right across the border from Hong Kong.
The city has mostly attracted migrants from across the country, it is a growing tech hub having high-profile Chinese companies Tencent and Huawei.
At present Heathrow has 11 direct routes to China that includes Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Qingdao. The cities of Chongqing, Wuhan, Sanya, Changsha, Xian and Shenzhen. The new Shenzhen flights will more than double Heathrow’s capacity to China.
From the UK the new route might turn out to be an alternative to flying direct to HongKong from the UK. Shenzhen is just a ferry or train ride away across the border into the former British colony.
As per the Heathrow’s current Trade Tracker Report the new route will add cargo capacity revealing that the exports to China via Heathrow grew by 330 percent as compared to last year.
