To boost Chengdu’s development as an international destination for tourists , the capital of Sichuan province in China is providing 144-hour transit visa free to visitors from 53 foreign countries from 1 January 2019.
At the opening of the 6th Chengdu International Tourism Expo (CITE) 2018 Ms DuoyangNamu, Director General of Chengdu Municipal Tourism Administration announced this at the Century City New International Exhibition Center.
CITE 2018 took place from 29 November to 1 December which is a leading travel show in Chengdu for professionals in the tourism industry.
There were 500 Chinese and foreign exhibitors from more than 30 countries that included global National Tourism Organisation. It had participation from leading tour agencies and attraction and had more than 300 hosted buyers from Sichuan and other provinces.The event was visited by 3,000 industry members.
The official opening was graced by the Chai Yan Zhu, Executive Vice-President and Secretary General of Sichuan Tourism Association and Mr Steven Pang, Consul General of the Republic of Singapore along with colleagues from consulate based in Chengdu.
There were more than 30 media partners and the major highlight was the participation of the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA) and the European Spas Association (ESPA) as a part of the EU-China Tourism Year which was aimed at increasing the number of Chinese tourist visiting Europe.
‘The lure of Romantic Europe for Chinese Visitors’ was presented by the members of the ETOA.To form strategic partnerships with China’s travel agencies ETOA and ESPA had brought a contingent of 100 European tourism supplier.
Debutant Ho Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism (Vietnam) promoted itself under the theme “Ho Chi Minh City – A Whole Vietnam”.
They held a press conference which gave the travel agents an insight into the China’s Outbound Tourism Market through intense networking sessions with Chinese buyers.
Edward Liu, Group Managing Director of CEMS said that their enthusiastic exhibitors were excited to be able to offer the hosted buyers and trade visitors, a huge diverse tourism-related products and services portfolio, enchanting and exotic destinations. He further stated that together with his team, they aim to continue driving critical communications and foster greater collaboration between the exhibitors and hosted buyers to meet the unique needs of the ever-growing Chinese travellers.
A special dinner was arranged at a city hotel by the Chengdu Municipal Tourism Administration to promote Chengdu as a top destination for more than 150 international exhibitors and tour operators from CITE 2018. Wang Pingjiang, a Vice-Mayor of Chengdu was the guest of honour.
In recognition of the splendid tourism promotional work carried out by Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) for the past six years, actively promoting Chengdu as a top tourist destination in Western China,
Edward Liu, Group Managing Director of CEMS,was presented with a Certificate of Honor, by Vice Mayor Wang Pingjiang on behalf of the Chengdu Municipal Tourism Administration for exceptional tourism promotional work carried out by CEMS.
