Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s tourism capital, has officially joined the World Tourism Cities Federation, becoming the 18th South American city to be part of the Beijing-led organization.
City officials say the membership is a unique opportunity for the so-called “Marvelous City” to attract more Chinese tourists. They are the world’s biggest spenders in tourism according to the UN.
This way they expect tourism at Rio’s tourism scene will see major boom in the coming years.
