As the historic capital of China and now a modern international metropolis, Beijing boasts seven UNESCO World Heritage sites and the distinction of being the world’s first capital with a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Situated in the Olympic Green Area at the northern extremity of Beijing’s central axis, the China National Convention Center phase II (CNCC II) is a pivotal construction project. Notably, it served as the Main Media Center (MMC) during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

Since its initiation in 2019, CNCC II has embraced the principles of an “international vision, global resources, technological advancement, and sustainability.” Aligned with the national objective of fostering a low-carbon, eco-friendly, and green transformation in the China Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry, CNCC II adheres to the LEED V3 platinum standard and Green Building 3-Star System standard. The project incorporates eco-friendly concepts such as a green venue transportation system, energy-efficient electromechanical systems, utilization of renewable resources, and intelligent energy management. Currently, in the interior design phase, CNCC II is slated to open its doors in 2025.

In September 2023, backed by robust support from the Beijing government and Beijing North Star, the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) – the global community for the international association meetings industry – made the decision to establish its China representative office in CNCC II, Beijing, China. This move aims to facilitate global networking exchanges for the business events industry in Beijing and China. At the recently concluded 62nd ICCA Congress, it was revealed that ICCA would collaborate with CNCC II on the first ICCASkills hub project in China. This significant initiative follows the establishment of the ICCA China Representative Office.

In September 2023, ICCA, in collaboration with the Beijing government and Beijing North Star, took a significant step in enhancing the workforce of China’s business events industry and globally by establishing the ICCA China Representative Office and initiating the first ICCASkills hub project in China.

Concurrently, Beijing North Star Group, the developer of CNCC II, signed agreements for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Beijing, North, and the Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel as integral components of the CNCC II convention complex. Chairman Li Weidong expressed optimism about the collaboration, anticipating strengthened brand interaction, increased market visibility, and the exploration of new business opportunities within the CNCC II complex project.

The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, North, the third Ritz-Carlton hotel in Beijing, and the Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel, the first in Beijing, are set to open in 2026 at the CNCC II complex. With 953 additional rooms, these hotels will cater to international and national MICE attendees, as well as high-end leisure and business travelers. The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, North, boasting 282 rooms, six dining venues, a lobby bar, banquet facilities, and a health and recreation center, will contribute to the luxury offerings of the CNCCII precinct. The Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel will feature 671 guest rooms and suites, 6 dining options and a total of 3,270sqm of banquet and convention facilities.

Upon completion, CNCC II will seamlessly integrate its main building with high-end hotels, a shopping mall, and a commercial office building. This world-class convention precinct, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, is set to be a top choice for dynamic meetings, exhibitions, and events. As a key player in China’s MICE industry, CNCC II will enhance Beijing’s status as a global exchange hub, fostering high-quality development.
