Sabah is aiming to reawaken its cultural and tourism interchange with Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi area in
Central China, which was disrupted by the restrictions brought in by the pandemic.
Datuk Christina Liew, the state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister visited Xi’an for obtaining the
memorandum of understanding of friendship and cooperation that was inked in 2019 between Kota
Kinabalu and Xi’an.
Liew said that the target is to relink and reinforce the government-to-government association between the two cities. She said that her visit to Xi’an is for restoring mutual tourism collaboration and cultural
interchange. Liew met with Meng Hao, the Vice Mayor of Xi’an.
Liew said that their conversation also covered Xi’an’s possible trade and investment show in Sabah under the newly set up Sabah Convention Bureau (SCB).
The Xi’an municipal government spearhead also decided to lead a delegation for visiting Sabah and tlak
about the improvement of the mutual affiliation.
At the get-together with the Vice Mayor, both parties settled on creating a mutual commission between Sabah Tourism Board and tourism organizations to increase and accelerate tourism doings.
Liew said that this inventiveness will also enable the interchange of thoughts, statistics and proficiency, in
order to elevate the tourism sector.
Meng, in the meantime, urged for forging tourism collaboration by organizing with the Sabah
administration for promoting both the cities.
