Passengers in UK are requested not to travel by rail as transportation disruption hits hard. Train and bus strikes are ongoing in the streets of London for the last two days. More than 45000 rail workers are taking part in the strikes.
Network Rail has informed only 20% of trains would run. Operators such as LNER and Cross Country are affected. The UK-wide rail strikes on Thursday and walkouts on the London tube network began on Friday and are still going on.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has urged Mr Lynch to put Network Rail’s “fair 8% pay rise” offer to RMT members. This is a demand that the workers are making with all their might.
Mr Shapps has stated that this unnecessary strike is damaging the motivation of people who do want to do their jobs because they cannot get any transport to arrive there.
Mr Lynch who is RMT general secretary rejected these claims and stated that this chaos is making no sense as only half of the people are involved in the process. He also believes that these will subside once the attention is not given anymore.
Additionally, he also said that only about half of the people in the team are working for the strike. Thus, giving it extra attention is unnecessary. ScotRail has stated that the dispute did not involve the staff. In Scotland, only 11 routes are working properly affecting the overall travel.
Several events are been affected by the London strike. Several of the fans come from far away places. Becky Hill at Crystal Palace Park in London and the All Point’s East festival in Victoria Park, London are some of the important locations where the people are attracted. Camp Bestival will take place in Shropshire. However, it is assumed that 90,000 ticket-holders has already been halfway when the strikes hit.
