Busiest Easter travel days reveal by Auckland Airport this year

Auckland Airport is preparing for the busiest days this year with an estimated 800,000 travellers passing through during the Easter school holidays. The airport is expecting passenger levels to reach 80% of pre-pandemic levels at domestic and international terminals, with similar traveller numbers to those seen during the Christmas period.

The 16-day school break, which includes Easter and Anzac Day, is encouraging many New Zealanders to take the opportunity to travel. The airport has warned that Thursday, April 6, prior to Good Friday, will be the busiest day for international traffic, while Good Friday will be the peak for domestic passenger movements.

However, Auckland Airport has asked for patience from travellers as some of the busiest passenger days are expected during the school holidays. The airport has urged passengers not to leave planning car parking to the last minute, as airport parking is expected to fill up.

Instead, travellers are advised to take a cab or public transport to the terminals to minimise congestion. The aviation system is still getting up to speed despite the border reopening nearly a year ago, and a combination of airline schedule changes, labour shortages, and mishandled bags continue to affect operations, according to Auckland Airport’s Chief Customer Officer Scott Tasker.
