Collins Aerospace, a business under RTX, is collaborating with easyJet to implement GlobalConnectSM connected aircraft services on over 330 Airbus aircraft within its fleet. With this deployment, easyJet is set to become the world’s largest A320 operator to integrate GlobalConnect, thereby enhancing safety oversight, pilot training, and operational efficiencies.
The Collins GlobalConnect solution leverages the existing Flight Operations and Maintenance Exchanger system (FOMAX), a collaborative development with Airbus. This integration provides easyJet with valuable insights into fleet operations, facilitating proactive decision-making and optimizing airline operations.
The adoption of this data exchange and analytics capability also holds the potential to streamline avionics architecture, leading to additional fuel efficiency gains by gradually eliminating quick access recorders. easyJet estimates that this weight reduction could result in saving up to 500 tonnes of carbon annually when implemented across the entire fleet.
Jane Ashton, Director of Sustainability at easyJet, expressed the airline’s commitment to seeking innovative solutions for enhanced connectivity. She highlighted Collins’ GlobalConnect as one of the initiatives aimed at driving operational efficiencies and reducing emissions across the fleet.
Jen Schopfer, President of Connected Aviation Solutions at Collins Aerospace, emphasized that the FOMAX system, combined with GlobalConnect, empowers airlines with comprehensive data-driven insights to improve operations and passenger experiences.
The activation of GlobalConnect services across easyJet’s fleet will be phased in over the coming months, with the process commencing before the end of 2023. This development marks a significant milestone in easyJet’s digital transformation, showcasing the airline’s dedication to embracing advanced technologies for the benefit of passengers and the environment.
