Antarctica, the toughest regions to explore for the global tourist now has a stunning pink and violet sky. Experts say this is the result of the Tonga Volcano eruption. The volcano Tonga erupted in January. Experts call this the afterglow effect.
The images have been captured mostly by the New Zealand science technician Stuart Shaw. He took the picture from Scott Base. Scientists working in Antarctica reported the phenomenon to New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospherics (NIWA).
The experts state that these are actually aerosols in the air which are currently existing within the sky, causing the pink colour in the sky. According to media issued by NIWA, the stratospheric aerosols can circulate the globe for months after the volcanic eruption, which scatters on the bending light. The experts are not sure whether this can disturb the health of the travellers.
Netizens in Antarctica are mesmerised by the exotic pink sky. Many are clicking pictures and posting them on their respective social media pages. One user has written that the exotic pink atmosphere is caused by aerosols which might not be directly harmful for the atmosphere. This phenomenon is surely going to raise the attractiveness of Antarctica.
