The Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships will uphold 13 lighthouses in Tamil Nadu situated at Pulicat, Poompuhar, Pamban, Karaikal, Kodikarrai, Mallipatinam, Nagapattinam, Dhanuskodi, Kilakarai, Kuthenkuli, Mannapad, Kanyakumari and Mahabalipuram as tourist attractions.
Lighthouse tourism amenities comprise a museum, cafeteria and porch to entice more tourists and relish
the picturesque loveliness on the top of the lighthouse, according to T. K. Ramachandran, who is the secretary of the ports, shipping and waterways ministry. He said this in the course of the opening of first light house commemoration in Chennai. It is a time of great contentment for everybody in the side at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways celebrating these significant lighthouses, which were overlooked from any possible value addition outside their position as directional tools and were recognized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be advanced from a touristic perspective and permit them to turn into pillars of local tourism and simultaneously make revenue for India, said Ramachandran.
