On Thursday, the state government of Tamil Nadu for the first time declared about its tourism policy by which industry status was given to tourism and is set to attract 20,000 crore investment in tourism.
This signifies that in projects related to tourism and stakeholders and others will now on become eligible for financial support that falls under industry development and will lead to improved opportunities related to employment and training.
Priority sectors and places can be developed. The new industry status to tourism by which it will get the benefits provided to an industry by the government. From various stakeholders, this was a long-standing demand.
Also, the policy is targeting at giving a fillip to recreation tourism, adventure tourism, caravan tourism, coastal tourism, rural and plantation tourism, medical and wellness tourism, eco-tourism, religious tourism, and MICE.
Also, it will endorse theme park tourism, sports tourism and golf tourism by heartening up establishment of extensive recreational amenities in well-known tourist areas like Ooty, Rameswaram, Chennai, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Trichy and Coimbatore.
This might comprise golf courses, sports -facilities, theme parks, and other recreational centres that will successfully draw tourist footfalls, said the policy. The policy imagines single window permission for tourism schemes as well.
