The Croatian National Tourist Board (CNTB) and the CNTB Representative Office for the Benelux region jointly orchestrated a distinctive promotional gathering in Amsterdam. This event convened with pivotal figures in the Dutch market, including essential partners, travel agents, tour operators, and media. Dubbed “Croatian Day in Amsterdam,” the event unfolded aboard a ship navigating the picturesque canals of Amsterdam. The focus of this gathering was to showcase the Croatian tourist offerings, with a particular spotlight on nautical and camping experiences.

The central collaborator for this occasion was the Istria Tourist Board, positioning itself as the premier Croatian tourist region and a preferred destination among the Dutch. Kristjan Staničić, Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, underscored the significance of the Dutch market in the growth of Croatian tourism and the broader travel industry. He emphasized the Netherlands’ consistent presence among the top 10 markets, contributing significantly to tourist traffic, flights, and camping in Croatia. Staničić expressed optimism regarding the potential to further strengthen ties with key Dutch partners and decision-makers in the tourism sector, especially during the pre- and post-season.

Frank Oostdam, Director of the association of Dutch tour operators and travel agents (ANVR) and president of ECTAA, served as the distinguished guest of the evening. He highlighted the imperative of sustainability in strategic planning, emphasizing the need for facilities with enduring functions. Oostdam urged travel agencies to adapt to changing consumer habits and expressed the growing importance of disclosing CO2 emissions in travel arrangement prices.

The event also welcomed the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Netherlands, Dubravka Plejić Marković, and Monika Udovičić, representing the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Denis Ivošević, Director of the Istria Tourist Board, praised the Dutch market’s importance in Istria, particularly in the dominant camping segment. The awards received for quality in the premium camping segment were highlighted as a testament to Istria’s appeal to environmentally conscious Dutch travelers.

According to eVisitor system data for the first 11 months of the year, the Dutch contributed around 550,000 arrivals and 3.1 million overnight stays in Croatia, marking a 1 percent increase from the previous year. Ivan Novak, Director of the Benelux Representative Office, noted the continuous growth in arrivals and overnight stays, particularly in the shoulder season, and commended the Dutch for their leisurely exploration of new destinations and appreciation for nature.

The “Croatian Day in Amsterdam” concluded with a presentation and tasting of Istrian products, featuring a diverse gastronomic selection from renowned producers. Guests were treated to a culinary experience supported by the Buršić ham distillery, Damjanić Distillery, Medea vino, Vesna cheese, Darna liqueurs, Nono Remiđo, Kampanjola Eco Craft Beer, and Karlić truffles. Additionally, visitors had the chance to participate in a prize draw, where the Istria Tourist Board and Croatia Airlines awarded one fortunate winner with a return plane ticket to Croatia and an Istrian Experience weekend.
