Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national airline, has positioned itself as a pioneer in the aviation industry by harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to elevate its safety management systems to an advanced level of sophistication. This strategic initiative underscores the airline’s unwavering commitment to enhancing safety protocols through cutting-edge technology.
In collaboration with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Etihad has embarked on a journey encompassing joint training programs, research endeavors, and the development of AI-powered solutions to fortify and enhance its globally renowned safety processes. Etihad’s AI-powered platform proficiently collects and analyzes data from flight reports, maintenance records, and training activities, expediting the refinement of existing safety procedures. The solution is fortified by state-of-the-art machine learning technologies, including Google BERT, Microsoft Azure, and TF-IDF, which significantly augment its advanced analytical capabilities.

Through the incorporation of AI, Etihad is not only optimizing its day-to-day operations but also advancing its Safety Management System (SMS). This safety-centric approach underscores the airline’s steadfast commitment to upholding industry-leading standards by investing in technologies that continuously enhance the safety and well-being of its passengers.
Since the signing of the agreement with MBZUAI in July 2023, Etihad has provided training to five interns across various business divisions, including Flight Operations, Revenue Enablement, and Human Resources. Additionally, Etihad has welcomed eight Emirati graduates through its internship program, Bedayati.
