The country has witnessed a major rise in visitor numbers in the initial six months of this year, with over 1.6 million tourists from abroad visiting the country.
As per the July data unveiled by the tourism department of the Laos Ministry of Information, showed that the highest number of visitors came from Thailand. There were around 668,595. They were followed by 398,937 from Vietnam and 317,604 from China respectively.
The visitor numbers has got augmented immensely compared to the initial six months of 2022. Then, the figures were only 42,197 nationals from abroad entered Laos on tourist visas.
As the government of Laos reopened the country to overseas travellers and the China-Laos Railway started its operation, people from different countries have started rushing to Laos.
For travel, railway is a popular means and it traverses through Luang Prabang and Oudomxay. These two provinces have several places of interest including adventure activities as well.
As the China-Laos Railway acts as a vital infrastructure in tourism, the authorities of Lao calculated that almost 368,000 travellers from China in 2023 will visit Laos. This would go up 21% from 2022.
The authorities and operators of tourism have enhanced hotel, restaurant, guesthouse services and added extra facilities at various tourist sites.
