A powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 struck north-central Japan on Monday, triggering a tsunami warning along coastal regions of Ishikawa, Niigata, and Toyama prefectures. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued the warning, cautioning residents about the potential danger of tsunami waves.

The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) has announced that on December 27, an earthquake with a Richter scale magnitude of 6.3 struck Japan’s Kuril Islands.

A seismic event of significant magnitude, registering at least 7.5 on the Richter scale, jolted Mindanao, located in the southern region of the Philippines, during the late hours of Saturday, setting off a chain of urgent measures and precautionary evacuations in both the Philippines and southwestern regions of Japan. The earthquake, occurring at 12:31:10 IST, was located at coordinates Lat: -2.96, Long: 86.54, with a depth of 10 km. The epicenter was situated 1326 km southeast of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

A devastating earthquake struck remote western Nepal, claiming more than 150 lives. The tremors were strongly felt even in the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, and neighbouring Indian cities like Delhi and Kolkata. The affected districts, Jajarkot and West Rukum, located 500 km west of Kathmandu, have prompted a swift response from security forces engaged in rescue efforts.
