Princess Cruises unveiled the appointed captains for its upcoming Sphere Class cruise ship, Star Princess, during a formal keel laying ceremony held in Monfalcone, Italy. Captain Gennaro Arma, presently overseeing the construction of both Sun Princess and Star Princess, will assume command as the master of the 17th Princess ship upon its anticipated launch in the summer of 2025. Commodore Nick Nash, a seasoned 33-year veteran of Princess Cruises, will take the helm in Captain Arma’s absence.
John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, expressed his privilege in introducing and congratulating the distinguished masters of the new Star Princess. He highlighted the remarkable histories of Captain Arma and Commodore Nash with Princess Cruises, emphasizing their wealth of experience and exceptional leadership qualities that will contribute to the success of the cruise line’s newest vessel.
Commodore Nick Nash, promoted to the rank of commodore in 2020, has served Princess Cruises since 1989. Currently, the captain of Enchanted Princess, he has a rich history of captaining various Princess vessels and has held prestigious roles within the maritime community, including serving as President of the Nautical Institute and receiving the United Kingdom’s Merchant Navy Medal in 2018.
Captain Gennaro Arma, with a passion for the sea since the start of his career in 1998, has ascended through the ranks at Princess Cruises. Recognized for his exceptional leadership, he has received prestigious awards, including the Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and being selected as one of the 20 most influential Italian figures in 2020 by Vanity Fair. Captain Arma, born in Sorrento, Italy, currently resides there with his wife Mariana and son Diego.
Star Princess is set to make its debut in August 2025, with cruise reservations already available for booking.
