This week Javier Milei, free-market candidate grabbed the Presidency in Argentina in an extensive 55% victory of the vote and his main election promises were to eliminate Peso and announce the Dollar as currency, cut public spending and largely liberalize the financial system.
If he goes ahead with this program, what that will signify for tourism – inbound, outbound and domestic – in what is biggest economy of Latin America? How fast could they see changes and in what way pertinent is this to global tourism.
The Country Manager for Argentina, Nicolás Posse, from Civitatis, the biggest online seller of tours & activities of the world and a company with an expansive presence in Argentina, says that it is imperative to note that any alterations won’t come for some time, Milei does not even take office for many days and such big changes would take time to get familiarized with.
Also, he will need approval of the legislative for such changes, and his party does not have a majority. Therefore, things could get less important or even not happen at all. Nevertheless, in spite of being early days the international investment sentiment definitely appears to be high, stocks & shares recoiled very rapidly.
