Just two weeks after 25,000 holidaymakers fled the Rhodes inferno, a typically quiet and idyllic island is remarkably back up and running and beautifully peaceful – or at least most of it.
The three owners of major hotels, the island’s governor, and countless Rhodians stated that everything is back to normal.
On the whistle–stop tour down the east coast of the island the men running the TUI hotels told of how hundreds of fleeing holidaymakers were put up in luxury rooms full–board for free. Hotel staff who hadn’t rushed to join the firefighting effort gave their own time to work deep into the night making sure they were fed, clothed, and had the essential medicine they needed.
More than three million people visit Rhodes and stay in its 546 hotels each year. Two weeks after the fires were put out, the TUI Sensation is back up to 95% occupancy and the atmosphere in the hotel is relaxed.
