A sudden fire on board an aircraft of Southwest that was getting ready to take off from John Wayne Airport with an aim to deplane on Monday compelled it to opt for an emergency landing.
Southwest Airlines flight 2123 reported smoke inside the cabin around 7.30 p.m. as per the Orange County Fire Authority.
The fire is believed to be inside the auxiliary power unit that had caused the emergency chutes to deploy to evacuate 139 passengers and five crew members. A few minor injuries were reported. But then, no one was transported to the hospital as has been confirmed by the airport officials.
Those injuries were from existing on chutes, and not owing to the fire.
The fire is out, according to the fire officials.
The passengers were expected to board an alternative flight at John Wayne a short while prior to 9 p.m.
