FITUR 2023 concludes with a milestone of 222,000 attendees

FITUR 2023 closes its doors today with a balance of absolute success that shows the great dynamism of the entire value chain of the tourism industry, and the good prospects for growth of this activity worldwide. In addition to the satisfaction transmitted by the participating companies, countries and destinations, by the business operations and contacts made, add the high figures of this edition that has exceeded all expectations, reaching parameters already very close to the historical record of FITUR 2020.

In this sense, during the five days of the fair, FITUR has brought together a total of 222,000 attendees, representing a growth of 99.6%, almost double that of 2022. Based on the profile of these participants, 136,000 professionals have been counted, which represents a growth of 68% and an estimated 86,000 visitors after the closure today of its two public days, which practically multiplies by three the data of last year.

In terms of participation, the fair has brought together 8,500 companies, 131 countries, 755 holders, throughout 8 pavilions of the fairgrounds, which have represented a net area of 66,900 m2 of exhibition, equaling the occupation of 2020.

This movement of arrivals at FITUR is estimated to generate an impact on the Madrid economy of approximately 400 million euros.

FITUR has also registered a great milestone in the digital field, and that is that only on the first day of the fair the traffic to the IFEMA MADRID website skyrocketed exponentially, reaching the historical record of 146,000 visits. In this same context, the FITUR LIVEConnect digital platform, which complements the fair with a hybrid format with a greater temporal and geographical scope, has recorded more than 56,000 registrations to date, compared to the 31,000 total in 2022.

Organized by IFEMA MADRID, this edition has had Guatemala as FITUR Partner Country, which has carried out a wide promotional display at the fair under its new brand “Amazing and Unstoppable Guatemala”. In addition, sustainable development, in its economic, social and environmental axes, has been the common thread of the great proposals of companies and destinations, as well as of the sections and activities of the fair.

Institutional support and visits by authorities from the five continents

As every year, we must highlight the strong institutional support that FITUR has received, with the support of Casa Real which, once again, put the finishing touch to the opening day with the presence of SS.MM. the Kings of Spain, as well as by the Government of Spain. In addition, FITUR 2023 has had the visit of the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Eduardo Giammattei, Partner Country of this edition; the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez; UNWTO representatives; 30 Ministers of Tourism from different countries; the Ministers of Economy and Social Affairs of Guatemala; 6 Spanish Ministers; 15 Presidents of Autonomous Communities and Tourism Councilors from 16 communities, and a hundred ambassadors and business managers, and mayors from different towns and cities in our country. In total, the attendance of 400 authorities gathered around this edition of FITUR has been counted,

Other great figures of FITUR 2023

The impact of holding FITUR 2023 has also been reflected in the wide attendance of the press and international media coverage registered during the days of the fair, in which 6,374 journalists have been accredited -58% more than in 2022- of the of which 5,861 have been national and 513 international from 46 countries. To date, more than 169,000 published news have been recorded, 26% above 2022, and an audience of 43,800 million.

In the social media environment, during the first two days of FITUR there has been a growth in the community of 3,724 followers, so that the FITUR profiles on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin now have a total of 288,557 followers. In addition, all the publications made during these first days have obtained 1,676,316 impressions. On the Twitter profile, FITUR has been TrendingTopic in the No. 1 position in Spain on the two days of the fair, obtaining more than 500 daily mentions on said channel.

Ecuador will be the Fitur Partner Country in 2024

The figure of Socio Fitur already has a protagonist for the next edition of FITUR, as it was revealed during the celebration of the fair, in which it was announced by the Minister of Tourism of Ecuador, Niels Olsen and the President of the Executive Committee of IFEMAMADRID, José Vicente de los Mozos, who signed the collaboration agreement by which Ecuador will be a ‘FITUR Partner Country’ in the next edition of the International Tourism Fair, to be held in January 2024.
