The Chinese authorities have confirmed that the 2nd black box of the China Eastern Airlines jet that crashed, has been recovered on Sunday.
The thousands of search and rescue operators at the crash site had been looking for clues and important pieces of information that could help in the investigation of the crash.
Now that both the black boxes have been recovered, it will be easier to understand the reasons for the crash. The data recorder has now been sent to Beijing for examination.
The cockpit voice recorder had been recovered earlier but severely damaged from impact.
The second black box was buried 1.5 meters underground and was partially damaged. Zhu Tao, the head of aviation safety at the Civil Aviation Administration of China has said that the black box was recovered approximately 40 meters from the point of impact.
The crash has brought the focus back on several issues around flight safety, including the plane’s maintenance records and the integrity of the aircraft type itself. The 737-800 is considered one of the safest narrow bodies to fly across the world.
This incident has affected the image of the Boeing company in a negative manner. It was already struggling to keep the delivery commitments of its Dreamliners following production and certification delays. The recent crash is just one in the number of 737 MAX airplane crashes.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has put together a team of technical experts from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Boeing to assist the investigation in China.
