In its ongoing commitment to enhance aviation safety, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has commissioned a team of fatigue specialists to explore innovative approaches in tackling air traffic controller fatigue.
Comprising three experts, this panel will delve into the most recent sleep science findings and considerations regarding fatigue, aiming to apply these insights to the demands and scheduling of air traffic controllers. Their primary goal is to pinpoint potential methods for the FAA to more effectively manage controller fatigue.
As part of their mandate, the team will thoroughly analyze past studies and research on controller fatigue.
Commencing their efforts in early January, the panel anticipates delivering a comprehensive report to the FAA approximately six weeks thereafter.
Mark Rosekind, a seasoned professional in safety, sleep, and fatigue, as well as a former member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will lead the panel as chairperson. The other esteemed members include:
