Various groups of artists from across the country warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he arrived in Ayodhya on Saturday. Inaugurating the redeveloped Ayodhya Dham Railway Station on December 30, he marked this significant event in preparation for the upcoming consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya scheduled for next month.

The Northern Railway reported that the construction of the railway station and the incorporation of new amenities amounted to Rs 241 crore. The redevelopment work, initiated a couple of years ago, has been carried out by RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) Limited, a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways. The expansion of the Ayodhya railway station aligns with the government’s efforts to facilitate the movement of devotees visiting Ayodhya for the ‘darshan’ of the temple, as well as other passengers. The station is conveniently located within walking distance from the Ram Temple. The three-story railway station building is outfitted with modern features including lifts, escalators, food plazas, shops catering to puja needs, cloakrooms, child care rooms, and waiting halls, reminiscent of facilities found in airports. It will also have a tourist information counter.

Prior to its inauguration, workers were actively engaged in adorning the main central hall of the railway station. The floor boasts intricate stone inlay work, while the roof features a “polycarbonate sheet,” imparting a bluish hue to sections of its high ceiling.

The new station building spans a footprint of 140m x 32.6m. Additionally, an extra front porch measuring 140m x 12m has been incorporated over the drop-off zone, serving to shield passengers from adverse weather conditions.

Chief Public relation Officer of Northern Railway Deepak Kumar said, “”We have constructed waiting halls with an aesthetic appeal on ground the floor as well as on the first floor. The station building shall be ‘accessible for all’ and has got IGBC certification for Green Station Building.”

 Kaziranga

The Kaziranga Bird Conservation Festival is slated to take place at Kaziranga National Park on January 9-10, 2024. According to reports, this event will incorporate the 5th waterbird census, a citizen science initiative. The festival is the outcome of a collaboration between Kaziranga National Park and the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).

Crafted to honor and protect the rich variety of bird species thriving in Kaziranga National Park, the festival warmly welcomes bird enthusiasts, nature lovers, college students, and members of civil society to engage actively in this celebration.

According to reports, the festival is expected to attract distinguished personalities, conservationists, and wildlife experts. It pledges an extensive lineup of live sessions, webinars, and a photography competition showcasing the diverse birdlife in Kaziranga. With a thematic focus on “Conserving Birds using Citizen Science,” the festival seeks to unite ordinary citizens, encouraging their active involvement in monitoring and safeguarding bird populations. This strategy promotes a shared responsibility for conservation, aligning with the collaborative spirit inherent in citizen science.

Over the course of four consecutive water bird surveys conducted from 2018-2019 to 2021-2022, Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve have unveiled significant congregations of resident and migratory water birds. The latest survey, conducted in 2021-2022, documented an impressive tally of 93,491 water birds belonging to 122 species, spread across 52 wetlands within the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. This represents a notable surge from the 2020 census, which reported 34,284 birds, and the 2018 count of 10,412.

Sonali Ghosh, Director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, underscored the region’s avian abundance, boasting a residence for 521 species, including 62 globally threatened and near-threatened species. The park has gained acclaim for its notable water bird populations, with special mention of the bar-headed goose. Ghosh emphasized the pivotal role played by water birds in enhancing ecological diversity, serving as bioindicators, controlling pests, and acting as sentinels for potential disease outbreaks. These avian species, crucial indicators of wetland health, find vital habitats in the wetlands of the Kaziranga landscape, where they partake in activities such as feeding, resting, roosting, and foraging.

In a visionary move, the Gujarat government is set to revolutionize tourism with its foray into submarine exploration around Bet Dwarka, a small island off the coast of the historic city of Dwarka. This groundbreaking initiative, announced in anticipation of the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, entails a strategic partnership with Mazgaon Dockyard Limited (MDL) to acquire a 35-tonne submarine for underwater tourism.

The mystical allure of Dwarka, believed to have been created by Lord Krishna, has been a subject of fascination for both historians and spiritual seekers. The proposed submarine, with a carrying capacity of 30 passengers, aims to provide an unprecedented window into the submerged city and the pristine waters surrounding Bet Dwarka.

The collaboration between the Gujarat government and MDL signifies a convergence of cultural significance and technological innovation. The announcement, expected during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, marks a pivotal moment for the region, promising not just a boost in tourism but also potential employment opportunities and increased investments.

The submarine, designed to reach depths of 300 feet, will offer an immersive experience with every seat providing a panoramic view of the underwater landscape. As the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with MDL, the construction of the submarine awaits the final approval of the state government, emphasizing the significance of this ambitious undertaking.

Dwarka’s historical mysteries, including the submerged city’s existence, have drawn archaeological expeditions along the Indian coastline. The discoveries of submerged walls, pottery, sculptures, and artifacts contribute to the rich tapestry of the region’s heritage.

In an era where tourism is evolving, Gujarat’s initiative stands out as a beacon of innovation, combining ancient history, mythology, and marine exploration. The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit is poised to unveil not just the submarine but a new chapter in tourism that captures the imagination of adventurers and history enthusiasts alike.
